A gift for you!
I’m very grateful you’re a subscriber–you deserve a little encouragement today! Here’s a collection of Scripture cards designed to keep you going on dismal days. Print them out, cut them apart, and tape them to your bathroom mirror, computer, cubicle, fridge, or car dashboard. Let them serve as reminders of God’s goodness. Pray through them for yourself, friends, loved ones. Share them with others, to help them find peace and joy with God.
A Hometown Podcast on “Johnson City Living”
My family has called Johnson City, Tennessee, our home for nearly 30 years. We love the folks, the mountains, the music, the local food, just about everything. Listen as Colin Johnson (an awesome podcaster) and I chat on his “Johnson City Living” broadcast about our town, my novel, and other writing adventures. You can find it as Episode 194 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube:
My devotions are on Spotify!
And, they’re on other podcast platforms—under the new devotions program launched by Crossmap. You can find stories from me and other bloggers under “Daybreak Devotions and Nighttime Prayers.” I was very blessed to be invited to write for this series of devotions for women. If you’re on Spotify or other podcast websites, look for this neat logo to follow these messages!

This is “friendship” week…
…a great reminder that friendships are wonderful gifts from God. Today, July 30, is International Friendship Day, and this Sunday, August 4, is National Friendship Day in the United States. This week offers a nice opportunity for you to reach out in support of your friends and help them realize they are very special to you.
Author DiAnn Mills just posted a helpful list of ideas for ways you can honor/celebrate your friends. Here are a few of her tips:
- Invite friends for dinner. (DiAnn mentioned that July 30 is also National Cheesecake Day, which you could serve as a double-special dessert.)
- Create a friendship card online.
- Volunteer at your favorite charity or nursing home.
- Deliver a goody treat to first responders.
- Offer to help with a household chore, gardening, or baby-sitting.
- Take a walk down memory lane (connect with a high school or college friend).
- Show friendship to active military or veterans.

Question/answer for Nancy:
Describe your view as you’re sitting in your writing chair.
I’m looking out my window at dusk. The view includes a birdhouse my dad made (inhabited by bluebirds and tree swallows in spring), a swath of trees that turn all different colors in fall, and a little glimpse of the Unaka Mountains. It’s my happy place! For decades, I worked in a windowless cubicle or basement office. Writers are supposed to stare out windows. I’m so blessed to have a window privilege now.

How can I pray for you?
Do you have a special need to be lifted up to our Lord? Or even a special joy to share? It’s a privilege for me to pray for you—please send me your requests, and I’ll keep them confidential. And, if you’re willing, please pray for the readers of my upcoming book, that my words will point them to Jesus and His forgiveness.
